Caring for your Wood Ceiling
While nothing in your home is “maintenance free”, keeping up on some basic routines will keep your wood ceilings looking fresh for many years to come. Taking care of your Synergy Wood ceiling can be a quick and simple routine.
interior ceiling care
We recommend using a telescoping floor duster with a removable pad or cloth. This will help remove dust, dirt and cobwebs from your ceiling – and keep you off a ladder. When done in a routine, this is all you may need to do.
Exterior porch ceiling care
We recommend using a telescoping floor duster with a removable pad or cloth. This will help remove dust, dirt and cobwebs from your ceiling. Avoid using water or a hose to clean any part of your wood ceiling.
Mold, Mildew and Mud Dobbers
If additional cleaning is needed, gently remove the debris with a gentle brush or Swiffer type broom. Remove the visible dirt and mildew. Then, using a solution of 1 tsp Dawn to one gallon warm water, clean area with a damp cloth, sponge or sponge mop (wringed) and follow with a dry cloth or dry mop. Be careful to not allow water to build up or stay saturated.
NEVER use a pressure washer on your wood ceilings or immediately near your wood ceilings.
“white powder”
“White powder” is actually called calcium sulfate (read our white paper on calcium sulfate) that is a natural part of the conventional kiln drying process. It affects some boards more than others and can present itself years later in your exterior porch ceiling. If you are experiencing white powder on your Cypress exterior porch ceiling, We have a DIY solution to help. More information.
